Carlsbad Caverns National Park

Carlsbad Cavern and the surrounding caves are part of the prehistoric Capitan Reef which existed during the Permian period 280 million years ago. It is one of the best preserved examples of reef and is unique among caves on the World Heritage List for it's sheer size and geologic decoration. Among the animals which call the park home are migratory bats.
